Poweredge R710 Memory Slots

Cloud Ninjas' Dell PowerEdge R710 Memory Upgrade Tips. The Dell PowerEdge R710 was designed with eighteen memory slots and two CPU sockets. Each CPU controls nine DIMM slots, split into 3 memory channels, with each channel supporting 3 memory sockets. The same goes for Unbuffered DIMMs. We have a Dell PowerEdge R710 server with dual Intel Xeon E5620 CPUs. The system is currently configured with 8 4GB RDIMMS (Micron MT36JSZF51272PZ-1G4F1DD) for a total of 32GB. The memory modules were pre-installed in dual-channel configuration from Dell. Slots A2, A5, A3, and A6 are populated on one side. Product Series R710. Processor & Chipset Number of Processors Supported 2. Number of Processors Installed 1. Processor Manufacturer Intel. Hi, i believe the issue here is slot distribution. It appears that you had left the original installed memory in the same slots as they were installed previously. To run this configuration in 'Optimizer Mode' you would want to install all of your DIMMS in order of slot in matching pairs. So for example, A1, A2, A3, A4, A5, A6; and then B1, B2, B3, B4, B5, B6 while also making sure you are matching pairs. So what spec you install in A1, you will match in B1. You are correct in thinking that the speed will clock down to due to the mixing of slower memory with faster speed memory, but installing the DIMMS in this manner should get rid of the error message you are seeing during the post process.
